TAG Day September 15th

  Justice Music Department Fundraiser

Tag Day 2018

Saturday, September 15th

Report to Justice at 8am - Finish around 2:30pm

All orchestra students are expected to participate!

Tag Day is the most important fundraiser for the Justice Music Department in that it benefits all students in Orchestra, Band and Chorus. It is an annual September event in which music students canvas the neighborhoods to request donations for Justice’s fantastic music ensembles. Every year the students raise over $30k in one day of fundraising. The funds are then divided between the 3 music disciplines depending on the hours of participation from the students/parents in that music discipline.

SOMETHING NEW THIS YEAR: If a student participates fully in TAG DAY they will have a reduced trip cost to Orlando this year. The student will ALSO be eligible for applying for a trip scholarship through their department. This is a wonderful opportunity to start saving on our Orlando trip which is in March.

Orchestra parents are needed to make this fundraiser a success!
We need parents to act as drivers for the day. Each driver takes 4 students and drives a designated route through the community. Parents' hours are also included in the division of the funds so please volunteer for this very important event. Every year we have students who are not assigned a driver since there is not enough and we scramble to find someone who can take these eager kids out on their route. Your help would be most appreciated!

Please click on the link below (or copy and paste into your browser) if you would like to volunteer or would like to see what is still needed - we look forward to seeing you all on September 15th! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. And please consider donating your time as a driver on Tag Day - see SignUp Genius to sign-up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0949a9ac29a02-justice

WELCOME BACK!

  • AUGUST 22nd, WEDNESDAY at 6:30pm in the Music Wing is the envelope stuffing day. We  work together as a department to stuff the envelopes distributed on TAG DAY. There are a LOT of envelopes to be stuffed, but "many hands make light work" - and you will be fed! FREE FOOD. Your volunteer time during envelope stuffing day counts towards the orchestra portion of the proceeds from TAG DAY. Our trip this year is to ORLANDO so every bit helps our program send more students there.
  • TAG DAY is Saturday September 15th - mark your calendars!!
  • Orchestra has ordered new T-Shirts  AND black polo shirts. Chamber orchestra members and all musicians going to Orlando will need to purchase a polo shirt as that will be the uniform. Polo shirts are $25 each and are made with very nice material - think Under Armour
  •  Chamber Orchestra students - the first performance is September 7th,  as people are walking in for the re-dedication ceremony for Justice High School. Arrival time is 4pm, performance at 4:40 - 5pm. Wear new black polo shirt. You will need your instruments the first day we have class, so remember to bring them.
  • Symphonic and Concert Orchestra students - if you need to rent an instrument from the school, please send Ms. Haynes an email so she can get instruments prepared for you. Paperwork is boring - playing music is so much more fun! Let's start reading music as soon as possible.

Spring Concert @ 7pm May 30th in MAIN GYM

Join Us Wednesday May 30th
for the final concert of the school year

Spring Concert at 7pm in the Main Gym.

This will be a concert combined with the choir, it's going to be fantastic!

Here are the call times for orchestra students - when they need to arrive:

Chamber - 5pm
Symphonic - 5:30pm
Concert/Cadet - 6pm

These are the times when students will need to be here at Stuart to change into their formal attire. Please remember to bring your black socks and shoes!

IMMEDIATELY following the concert the choir will have their short senior recognition ceremony in the Main Gym and the orchestra students and families will move to the auditorium for a brief awards ceremony. Books Awards, Certificates and Senior Recognition will take place.

After the awards ceremony ALL students (choir and orchestra) will help breaking down the set-up in the Main Gym. Every orchestra student is responsible for taking care of their own chair and stand and getting it racked and stacked and moved back into the orchestra room. The Main Gym needs to be clear for Thursday morning.

REMINDER: All orchestra students will have a mandatory rehearsal Tuesday May 29th with the choir students after school in the main gym. The rehearsal starts at 3:10 and will end at 4:30pm. Please be prompt and have all necessary items.

Spring Concert After School Rehearsals

It is important to have some after-school rehearsals for our Spring Concert, as there are several pieces that are combined with the choir or other orchestras. The dates and times of those rehearsals are listed below. It is extremely important to have everyone there to help with a smooth running of the Spring Concert on May 30th.

After School Rehearsals:
Tuesday May 22nd
Wednesday May 23rd
Tuesday May 29th from 3:15 - 4:30pm.
Attendance will be taken.

Meet in the orchestra room and be ready with your instrument tuned and music prepared no later than 3:15.

This is a BIG undertaking for the Spring Concert and it is vital that everyone is there so that everyone is aware of what is happening. SO please clear your afternoons for these dates. These are not a surprise :) They have been on the board for a few weeks and we have also discussed them numerous times in class.

If you have any questions please let me know. I am excited for the spring concert - it is going to be a great one!!
